NWCLA Meeting Program Topics for 2013


January 10, 2013

The January NWCLA members' meeting wil host Brian Lucier and Ron LeShane of the Northern Worcester County Landlord Association.

They will be presenting to our members the changes in the 2013 NWCLA member's web site as well as walking through the online NWCLA newsletters, and the new eviction lists, and drug arrest lists, and level 3 sex offender data base on www.HousingCourtSearch.com.. They will be discussing the NWCLA web site community features and the Login process to access the data base and other members benefits.

There will also be a Q & A session for all of your online marketing questions including SEO (Search Engine Optimization), putting your ads on Craigslist, and utilizing sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and other private web sites to get your listings noticed. This is a great meeting for first time members or for long standing members to get acquainted with our new membership benefits.

Guess Who Is Having A Birthday Party!

We are!! The Northern Worcester County Landlord Association first formed with six members in 2000, but incorporated as an official non-profit organization in March 2003. That was also the year that the NWCLA won Massachusetts Rental Housing Authority's Blue Ribbon Award for "Landlord Association of the Year".

Well, now we are turning 10 years old as a non-profit association helping Massachusetts Landlords! And 2013 is "Going To Be Our Year". At the Board of Director Winter Summit we sat down and have planned a host of events to share with our members and the communities that we serve.

In march 2013 we will be hosting an invitation RSVP event for the communities we serve at Destare's in Fitchburg. NWCLA members will be able to attend by showing your valid 2013 NWCLA Membership card at the door. Don't wait if you have not renewed your membership yet.

Our special guests for the June NWCLA meeting will be Christopher Banthin, J.D. Director, TCRC/Senior Staff Attorney from The Public Health Advocacy Institute and Joan E. Hamlett, Director of the Central Region Alcohol and Tobacco Control Alliance.

We will be discussing the possibilities of Non-Smoking Rental Units and the upcoming ramifications of tenants smoking Medical Marijuana in the buildings we manage.

Christopher Banthin, J.D
Director, TCRC/Senior Staff Attorney

As the Program Director of the Tobacco Control Resource Center, Mr. Banthin oversees tobacco research and policy development projects at the Public Health Advocacy Institute. Mr. Banthin was previously the Deputy Director of the Tobacco Control Resource Center before its merger with the Public Health Advocacy Institute in 2006.

He has authored several articles and presented at conferences around the country on tobacco control and public health law. Mr. Banthin directs work on numerous research grants and contracts. He advises municipalities, state and federal lawmakers and nongovernmental public health organizations. He was an expert consultant to the United State Department of Justice in its lawsuit against the leading cigarettes manufacturers. Mr. Banthin’s appellate law practice is largely focused on defending public health laws from legal challenges.

Guest Speakers will be David Tuttle of the Worcester County Sheriff Office

Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff Civil Process office will be attending our meeting to go over the steps to follow for an eviction. They will provide an outline of what our responsibilities are as a landlords and how the process works.

The Deputies will be available to answer questions and will have handouts and contact information for each member in attendance. Come out and join us the second Thursday of the month May 5/9/2019

The Massachusetts Commission Again Discrimination (MCAD) will be presenting on the differences between service, companion and emotional support animals. Learn the legal rights of tenants and the crucial information to help us ensure they are not being discriminated against; intentionally or not.
